This summer I have the privilege to lead a team from my church in Los Angeles to Berlin, Germany to serve Syrian Refugees who have sought asylum there. I'd love to give you some history behind this issue so you can better understand the heart behind why we are going:
This two week trip I am taking is a part of a much larger movement called Engage The Crisis. This is a relief effort of my church, Antioch Missions International, created to meet the needs of the large number of refugees currently entering Europe. Our heart is to serve the Syrian Refugees, be part of restoring their dignity, and let them know they matter to God and they matter to us. Through this the Church has an opportunity to define how this historic crisis is spoken about in future generations!
This summer , we will be
serving in a number of ways: meeting practical needs, and
bringing the Good News of a God who loves them and has
not forgotten them. As I’ve watched the news unfold over
the last few years, it’s broken my heart to see how many
have lost everything in the path of violence and unrest in the
Middle East. God has given me a heart for the vulnerable
and the voiceless; it has felt so distant though, and, apart
from the power we have in prayer, I haven’t known how to
take action. This summer feels like an incredible invitation to
partner with God and put hands and feet to those prayers!
For the Lord your God ... ensures that orphans and widows receive justice. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing. So you, too, must show love to foreigners, for you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt.
Deuteronomy 10:18-19
If your heart is stirred by this, I would love to invite you to partner with me by prayer and, if you feel led, financial support as well to help me get there. For this trip I have to raise $2,600 to cover airfare, food, and housing. Below are links to email and sign-up for prayer updates or to give towards the trip. To give support, under the "To:" section you can select my name from the drop down menu. Thank you for your support!
